Club Walk: Inveruglas to Arrochar Grade: C+  Dist: 7.8 mls. Asc: 1194 ft  Desc: 1275 ft.
Walk Time: 4 hrs 42 min Leader: Jim Banford

The Club Walk is described by Jim as follows:
This is a beautiful walk in a very picturesque part of Scotland. Our walk begins on the shores of Loch Lomond at Inveruglas from the Gaelic ‘Mouth of the Douglas’ referring to the stream which flows into Loch Lomond at this point. Inveruglas is close to Loch Sloy Hydro Electric Power station opened in 1950. We begin at the Inveruglas Visitor centre with a short walk alongside the A82 on a tarmac road which soon becomes a well-defined path. Our route leads us uphill, following the route of Inveruglas Water uphill towards Loch Sloy. We follow this road uphill for 1.5 miles ascending 400 feet. On reaching Coiregrogain farm, where we leave the tarmac road and follow the Three Lochs Way through a pine plantation into Glen Loin. The route is single file for most of the way, and very muddy in places. Given good weather, the route provides excellent views along Glen Loin towards Arrochar and Loch Long. We may also be able to see the tops of Ben Vane and Ben Vorlich.  As we approach Arrochar, the route turns East towards Tarbet on wider paths and finishes with a series of short sharp ascents and descents to reach a forestry commission road which leads onto the A83 between Arrochar and Tarbet. We continue on this tar-sealed path until we reach the sign which directs us towards Arrochar. We once again go under the rail line and continue to the waiting coach. Gaiters and walking poles are advised as it can be slippery and muddy if the weather is wet.

Extended Walk: Inveruglas to Succoth Grade: B Dist: 8.7 mls Asc: 1456 ft. Desc: 1547 ft.
Walk Time: 5 hr 20 min Leader: Fiona Dickson

Mark Bannerman on behalf of Fiona Dickson reports that this is a straightforward walk with an easy start from the A82 heading towards the Three Lochs Way. A short uneven track avoids a loop of road walking and opens out to a broad, well-made path alongside Inveruglas Water. After splitting from the Club Walk, a good track crosses a stream and skirts the forest for about a mile to reach the quarry. The next half-mile or so from the quarry up to the track into the forest, is the only slight ascent of the walk. Although the following 5 miles are through forest, the area opens out from time to time giving views of the surrounding hills. There are also patches of broadleaved trees rather than conifers to give a more open outlook. The track from Succoth into Arrochar is narrower, less well-defined, giving good views over Loch Long and Arrochar. This path is likely to be slippery and muddy, if wet, so gaiters and poles are advised.

*Please make sure that you have adequate food, hot and cold drinks, clothing and equipment for your comfort and safety on these walks. Walking poles and gaiters are recommended. If you have any questions about this walk or any other club matter, please get in touch.
