Walk Details

Both walks start and finish at the Waterwheel Cafe, with two different levels of walks available. Susan Saine leads the Club walk and David Whiteside the extended one.

Morning stop: Waterwheel Cafe

Social stop: Galashiels

Booking on is by email or text to Ronnie Taylor at 07773028647 and ronnietaylor1956@icloud.com or via the website, duncanrigramblers.co.uk using drop down menu “walk book on”

The Club Walk: Selkirk Circular:  Grade ‘C’,  Distance: 7.9 miles. Ascent and Descent: 745 feet.

The walk starts at Old Mill Cafe and heads towards Selkirk, crossing the bridge over Ettrick Water and walking alongside it before taking the footbridge through to Victoria Park to reach The Haining, a historical mansion. Our walking route bypasses the Haining Loch, following the waymarked route along Muirieston Hill, passing through open fields with lovely views of the surrounding area and distant hills.  Possibly some grazing sheep and lambs in the fields, so take care! Further along the track we cross Ettrick Water and continue to Philipshaugh Estate following which there is a short section of road walking, for safety reasons single file is advisable.

The High Walk: The Three Bretheren: Grade ‘B’, Distance 8.6 miles. Ascent and Descent: 1615 feet.

A very pleasant walk, a mixture of woodland and moorland which starts at the Waterwheel cafe. There is a gradual climb through the Battlepark, Traquair and Tiby Tamsons Plantations, passing a reservoir before crossing a wooden bridge leading to the Three Bretheren. We then start a steeper climb to the summit where we will stop for lunch. At the top, providing it is a clear day, we will be treated to one of the best wide angled views of the central Scottish Borders with a panoramic view, including the Yail Hill Forest, Selkirk, Eildon Hill with Melrose, Peat Law and Linglie Hills. The paths are mostly good with loose shale and mud in places. Care should be taken due to the loose shale.

Gaiters and poles are recommended for both walks.

If you have any questions regarding the walks or require more information, please contact Mark Bannerman our Route Co-ordinator on marban_007@outlook.com
