The Club Walk: Walk 11 Bridge of Orchy to Victoria Bridge & Clashgour
Distance 8.8 miles Ascent 893 ft Descent 855 ft. Leader: David Black
The walk starts at the car park adjacent to the Bridge of Orchy hotel, and our route follows the Old Military road, on the West Highland way. A short climb up the hill gives a dramatic viewpoint over Loch Tulla and the Black Mount. After our short descent toward Inveroran hotel, we walk on road past Victoria bridge towards Forest Lodge, before turning Westwards and following for approximately 1.5 miles, giving stunning views of the surrounding mountains on a clear day. We then take a fork through woodland to a working farm, where it may be very muddy underfoot depending on the weather. We then walk down towards the river again, where we turn back Eastwards following the river for approximately 2miles until we reach Forest Lodge again, where we cross the bridge again for a short walk to the waiting coach.
Gaiters and poles are recommended for both walks.
The Extended Walk: Loch Dochard
Distance 8.3 miles Ascent 520 ft Descent 520 ft. Leader: Alice Alves
The walk starts at Victoria bridge car park, crossing over the bridge and follows a LRT alongside the river for 1.5 miles, giving stunning views of the surrounding mountains on a clear day. We then take a fork through woodland to a working farm, where it may be very muddy underfoot depending on the weather. We then walk down towards the river again, where we cross using large boulder type stepping stones. On 2 separate sections of the river, which could be tricky in wet weather, and for those members without good balance. We continue to follow the river upwards to Loch Dochard which is a beautiful spot to stop and enjoy before returning. This time following a more rough route along the river and crossing a couple of tall “A” frame type styles, through sometimes boggy, tufted grass. It is a challenging but beautiful walk. Also, please note that we cross a narrow suspension type footbridge with a weight limit.
